Our last full day, I wanted to take Brock into the city. New York City is an experience, for sure. Poor Katherin had a water leak in her basement that morning and couldn't act as our tour guide, but it worked out for Brock to experience the Metro train and Grand Central Station!
Before we left, Katherin helped direct us on a potential route of things to see. We started at Grand Central, of course, heading west on 42nd Street towards Bryant Park, but first, I had to stop and admire all the architecture inside the train station.
First stop was the New York Public Library - saying hello to Patience and Fortitude - the two lions in front of the main entrance.
We stopped at Bryant Park and enjoyed a little snack in the shade.
We made it to Times Square! Lots of people, advertisements, and stores!
We ducked into the Disney store for a little air conditioning and it was quite amazing - two stories of all kinds of Disney merchandise that you could imagine!
Brock spotted a Nintendo store on the map while we were planning our route at Katherin's and it was a great little find! The only store in the USA!
Brock had a tough time picking out which stuffed animal was coming home with us!
We made our way to Rockefeller Plaza - he knows this site from many a movie - Home Alone, Hawkeye, etc.
We ducked inside FAO Schwarz to look around and he was amazed how big the store was - if only he saw the original! Sidenote... if you're ever in New York - there's a bathroom on the second floor of this store! Very helpful!
He couldn't believe the price tag on some of these Steiff stuffed animals! No Brock, I am not purchasing the $1,575 elephant or the $2,180 deer!
We made our way to St. Patrick's Cathedral, built in 1878, with the spires being added in 1888.
We gave an offering and picked up two candles - one for Great-Grandma Grace and one for Grandma Debbie. Brock lit the candles and was quite inquisitive about the process.
We made our way back to Grand Central and met Katherin at the train station in White Plains. The next day we had a lovely photo session in Katherin's backyard before we headed to LaGuardia.
Brock and cousins Amelie & Claire.
Brock's blanket made the journey too!
We had to return the rental car, but more importantly I was worried about traffic and how long it would take to navigate through the airport shuttles from the rental car area - we had plenty of time for a nice sit down lunch at the airport. The meatball appetizer looked amazing!
But the size of those pizza slices were even more impressive! Brock figured out how to tackle it!
My hunny upgraded us to First Class on the way home - what a treat! Brock said the best part was getting on the plane before everyone else.
This is a trip I wish we made last summer, but it just didn't work out between schedules and people getting sick - stupid Covid. Nevertheless, I loved that Brock and I made it work this summer and I was able to show him these amazing places and visit our wonderful family. Kade is already asking when is his turn to go to New York and Connecticut!
P.S. - the fresh rolls made it back to North Carolina fabulously!
