Only Brent and Brock attended the June 27th Swim Meet against The Reserve, as Kade and I were just traveling back from New York that evening. This particular swim meet, Brock really rose as the team captain of his age group - above picture is him helping another boy put on his swim cap.
First individual event - 25m Freestyle - Brock placed First with a time of 15.50.
Second event - 25m Backstroke (his least favorite) - Brock placed First with a time of 21.22.
Last "main" event - 25m Fly - Brock placed First with a time of 17.25 (.62 seconds faster than the previous week!)
As the 4th of July holiday was on a Tuesday, our swim meet moved to Wednesday, July 5th. This was going to be very interesting against Preston Village, as one of TAC's top boys swam for the opposing team.
Kade was ready to go for his 25y Freestyle! Ended up placing Fifth for Freestyle!
This is where Brock was paired up with the TAC boy. He has perfect form in the water; amazing to watch.
Brock ended his 25y Freestyle with Second place.
Good sportsmanship with a high five!
So EXTREMELY proud of Kade! He placed Second in his Breaststroke! He was short of first by fractions of a second! (Can't be too mad - the boy who came in First was on our team though!)
Meanwhile, all the 7-10 boys were having a great time playing at the ping pong table!
Kade preparing for his Butterfly (he's in the far lane).
I love the picture of his dive in!
Brock had some tough competition that meet. Brock placed third on this Butterfly event.
This ended up being our last Summer Swim Meet of the season. We were already slated to miss the very last one due to our family beach vacation, but unfortunately Brock contracted pink eye the following week and missed that one too.
Overall a good season, albeit a short one. It's a hard lesson for Brock, but a reminder that there are going to be better swimmers out there and if he wants to do his best he has to keep pushing himself. Our family did a lot of thinking over the summer and decided it's time for Brock to make a change to give him what he needs in his swimming career. Brock will begin swimming for RSA (Raleigh Swimming Association) in September. There will be a few boys faster than him, but that will hopefully help push him to become a stronger swimmer too. Unfortunately, he has had no one to chase here at Lifetime (in his age group) and racing against your own time can only get you so far. This will be a change for all of us, but Brock is ready!
