Brent & Kade go Fishing!

Brent and Kade took a mental health day on Tuesday, May 31st and went fishing out of Oregon Inlet. They drove in the night before to get a good night's sleep nearby and woke up early to follow the charter boats out of the marina at 5AM.

It was a really gorgeous day - 42 miles off shore and it was as calm as a lake!

They had a GREAT fishing day! Most of the time Brent fishes at a location called "The Point", which is on the continental shelf, but heard from a local fishing report, the fish were 20-30 miles north of that spot. They took a chance, followed a charter boat north and when they arrived, immediately saw the largest pod of porpoises Brent had ever seen. They fished that spot and had their first bite within 5 minutes.

Here's a 10 minute video of Brent fighting and landing a huge yellowfin tuna!

Poor Kade - he was tired after a long day of fishing.

They returned home to show off their haul - two beautiful yellowfin tuna - so large they wouldn't fit in the fish box, he had to use the fish bag!

Fish #2 - even bigger!

Look! It's almost as tall (long) as Kade!

Now the hard part - sitting in the sun and cleaning up this fish. We managed to divvy up about 20 meals worth of fish from these two. We gave some out to neighbors and family, but vacuum sealed the rest for future dinners. Delicious!
