Oak Island over Labor Day Weekend

Brian and Nancy smartly invested in a beach house in Oak Island earlier this year. As typical for owners of a rental, they reserved a few peak weeks for their own use in the house and asked us to join them over Labor Day weekend!

Who doesn't love a little evening swim in the backyard pool an hour post-arrival!!

The next day was Beach Day!

So nice to see Brock and Kade play with their cousin Maddox!

My hot husband enjoying a little sun!

And my little otter enjoying the water. Brock loved swimming - inching further and further out to jump or swim through the waves!

How lucky are we - an Italian ice cart passed by just as we needed a little treat!

After a short walk back, it was lunch time! I think Brian won the prize for highest stacked sandwich!

Sweet Riley was there too!!

There was some bickering (mostly brothers), some bossiness (mostly Kade, slightly Maddox), some overtiredness (mostly Brock), but overall the three cousins did great playing together. The most favorite toy of the weekend was for sure the foosball table!

Oak Island is a south-facing coastal town so you can actually sit on the beach and watch both the sunrise and sunset!

Sunset walks make for good photo opportunities - even with a rinky dink iPhone. ;)

(I love the progression Maddox makes in these pictures, finally smiling to the right direction!)

Shorts hiked up so he wouldn't get them wet! He's so thoughtful!

The next day, we opted to check out the town's cute little splash pad! Maddox was hesitant at first to go in, but once Dad got wet - he was all about it!

Also helps when a confident older cousin looks like he's having fun too!

After splash pad, there was more pool and then a mandatory nap for all children - and some adults! Then we skipped off for dinner out! What to do during an hour wait for the table - start drinking and walk along the pier!

Dinner with a fun tiki glass!

More Cousin time/togetherness!

Alas, after a nice long weekend, our family time was over. We loved our stay with the Rosenfeld's and had so much fun laughing and catching up. We are forever grateful of our time spent with family - the takeaway from this pandemic at the least - savor and treasure the time spent with the ones you love most. Thank you Nancy, Brian, and Maddox for a wonderful end to summer!
