Family Beach Vacation to Nags Head - Part I

We reserved our Outer Banks beach-house in mid-January and felt totally late to the game. Not a huge selection on a place that would sleep 8, allow multiple BIG dogs, close-ish to the beach/marina with parking for a boat, and looked clean/safe. I mean come on, not a ridiculous wish list! The house wasn't huge and the two sets of stairs weren't the best for some family members, but overall, I think we all enjoyed the house in Nags Head.

Brent moved up his trade-in date on his new diesel truck so it could haul the boat down to the beach. Nice new ride Brent! As Brock says - "the new truck can pull THREE boats, the Tundra could only pull two!" Yup, cause Daddy pulls three boats all the time...

After a long morning of packing and driving and 85% unpacking/making beds, we headed out for dinner. Brock found this cool shell with a drawing of a mermaid and held on to it all week long!

While waiting for a dinner, we listened to some music and drank some adult beverages on the patio - yup, it felt like we were officially on vacation now!

It was also so nice for the boys to spend some much needed quality time with their Nashville cousins - Blaine and Reagan!

Monday we hung out around the house, went grocery shopping and played in the pool at the house. A mellow day after a lot of scrambling on Sunday.

Unfortunately Tuesday brought icky rainy weather - not too terrible as it was the only rainy day we had that week. We opted to try out our 4-wheeling capabilities and took the Ram and the Highlander north to the 4x4 area. Literally drove Highway 12 until the road ends in the sand.... and then you keep driving.

It was windy and rainy and a bit chilly - no one wore bathing-suits, so us big kids knew to stay dry.

The little ones, not so much...

Moose LOVED the sand! New texture/smells/experiences!

He wanted to dig it all up!

Figured Diesel would much prefer the spaciousness of the back of the truck on the way back compared to sharing the back of the Highlander with the Moose!

 Windy!!!

Upon returning to the beach house, Moose held guard watching anything that came through the cul-de-sac!

Kade got in a nice nap on the drive down, so by the time we got back to the house, the boys were ready to play again! Well how about that really nice playground we saw just a couple miles away? We loved that Reagan came too!!

Wednesday, we finally made it to the beach!

Gorgeous soft, smooth sand!

 Our post :)

Reagan was helping Kade build the best sandcastle.... or just good enough for him to stomp on!

We don't do water guns in our house.... these "shooters" are what my boys get. Pull back to suck up the water, then push it back and out shoots the spray!

Snack time - and the obligatory "No Mom, don't take a picture of me!!"

Channeling Moose - guess he saw how he dug the other day and figured it worked for him, why not Brock!?

How are we going to top all this fun!??!? Stay tuned for Part II!!
